After World War 1, Americans were afraid of new Immigrants taking their job and creating tougher competition, especially organized labor forces. They were afraid because immigrants worked for extremely low wages, and they would get hired over someone who wanted more money. The type of immigrants the white protestants resented were the Catholics and Jews that come from the South and East side of Europe. Immigrants were not only resented and feared for because they were “stealing jobs” but because after the Great War they were just distrusted. Foreigners were perceived as people who were anarchists who want to enforce communism on Americans. Prohibitionist also resented immigrants because they did not like how they drink. In the 1920s, this resentment of immigrants led to the first European-immigration laws, that were designed to keep people who make cause problems out of the country. On the other hand of Nativism, the Ku Klux Klan, commonly known as the KKK, was a big problem in the United States because in the 1920s, over 3 million Ku Klux Klan members extended all over the United States, electing people who represent their ideology in public offices. Politicians in every part of the government wanted the Ku Klux Klan’s endorsement and their support. They were a very popular group because the way Americans resented immigrants, sympathised with what the Klan stood for. Unlike the early KKK, The Klan in the 1920s, had a larger geographical scope and a larger enemy list. The Klan aimed at mostly Immigrants, specifically the Catholics and Jews, and any group who was against the Klan’s beliefs. After 1925, support for the KKK quickly declined. Klan leaders were no longer looked at as immortal and leaders such as Grand Dragon Stephenson, was found guilty for murder which led to a faster decline of this empire.
